RAIN AND WIND WILL HIT PARTS OF ENGLAND BUT WARM BLAST IS ON ITS WAY

The washout continues as heavy rain and brisk cold winds are set to hammer parts of England - but a warm blast is on its way.

The gloomy April showers could drizzle on today with heavy rain and strong gusts forecast moving north across eastern parts of the country today.

However, Met Office Marco Petagna said in a video weather update: 'It could brighten up briefly towards the far southeast, but that will also set off some heavy local thundery showers and during the afternoon the rain will reach the east of Scotland.'

The expected continued downpour has brought on flood warnings for parts of England - announced by the Met Office this morning.

There are currently 75 flood alerts in place where flooding is possible as well as five flood warnings.

It comes after torrential rain hit the country yesterday and continued through the night.

A sunnier outlook for the west has been forecast by the national weather forecaster with bright spells and some scattered showers.

Highs 'no better than' 12 to 13C are forecast, but the northeast will be hit with the worst as 8 or 9C and a 'blustery day' is predicted.

The rain is set to move towards the northeast in the evening and early hours of Monday morning.

It should be a clearer elsewhere in the country but more showers  working from the west, 'merging to longer spells of rain' and turning to heavy rain on Monday morning.

It is forecast to be a chilly start to the week in the east and north east with possible frost in rural areas and general temperatures to be between 3 to 7C.

The bleak weather could be taking a turn however, as brighter skies are coming in the east and south east according to the national weather forecaster.

There are still showers forecast for the north and west but a warm blast is set to push through with temperatures of 12 to 14C in some areas of the country and even up to 16C in the south east.
