RSCN MARKS WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

AMMAN — The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) celebrated this year's World Environment Day with a focus on plastic pollution. Held annually on June 5, this year marked the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day, originally created by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972.

Millions of individuals from around the world engaged in online activities, events and personal initiatives to contribute to the cause. A statement released by the RSCN highlighted the need to address the issue of plastic pollution, stressing that the detrimental impacts on human health, the economy and the environment “cannot be overlooked”.

The society emphasised the urgent need to develop effective measures to reduce the production and consumption of single-use plastic materials and called for the adoption of sustainable alternatives that are long-lasting and environmentally friendly. The RSCN urged individuals, organisations and stakeholders to collaborate on this endeavour.
